Features | Benefits
Monitor Quality Analyzer
gives you the tools to find out just how good your display actually is; and compare it to other displays using easy-to-read maps of your screen’s uniformity, allowing you to determine which areas of your screen are precise enough for the most demanding work
New Display Graph
allows you to compare the gamut of multiple displays to one another, as well as to standard color spaces like sRGB and AdobeRGB. This helps you understand what colors your display can reproduce
Iterative Gray Balance Option
for the most accurate gray balance algorithm available. This gives you the best gray calibration for your display
Software Brightness Control
allows owners of iMac and other displays with limited dimming controls, to work with these displays in more desirable, dimmer environments, and to match them to other displays
Automated Brightness Adjustment
means users no longer need to adjust front panel controls on Apple Cinema Displays, iMacs, MacBooks or PowerBooks. All brightness adjustments on these screens are done automatically by Spyder software
Requirements
- Spyder3Elite Colorimeter
- Spyder3Elite 3.x serial number
Support
I'm a PrintFIX PRO owner, and love the printer profiles it produces. But now I'm hearing all these great things about Spyder3Print. What am I missing out on?
There is no need for you to miss out on anything. All PrintFIX PRO owners are welcome to download the new Spyder3Print software from the Spyder3.com website, and use it with their current DC1005 spectro, and current PFP serial number.
I've just installed my new copy of Spyder3Elite and find the new features to be way cool. But I think I need some help with the new Expert Console. I'm a bit scared that I'll do something crazy, with all those controls at my fingertips.
That's why it's called the “Expert” Console; we only expect advanced users to choose it over the easier Assistant Interface. Even for experts, its important to allow the New Display assistant to run to define each of your displays, and then (if you are interested in advanced display matching) its a good idea to run StudioMatch, and define an appropriate Studio Target. After that, your Studio Target will come up as the preselected choice in Expert Console. That simplifies using the Console, by eliminating manually defining ambient light levels, gamma and whitepoint, as well as black and white luminance for each display.
I recently installed Spyder3Elite, and in my enthusiasm to use it, I suspect I did not properly define my display’s available settings. The New Display Assistant only ran that one time; so how can I check and change my settings after the fact?
Fortunately we allowed for just such situations. You will find, in the Actions Menu, an item named Edit Display Information that will trigger the Edit Display Settings Assistant; offering the same choices as the New Display Assistant.
We have always run our Student Lab with a single Spyder2. Looking at the continuous ambient light monitoring of Spyder3Elite, it seems we’ll have to forsake this new feature, or else buy an entire Lab full of Spyders. Is there a solution to this - one
As you note, you could define an appropriate ambient light level and matching target, and use it for all your Student Lab monitors, and simply not run the real time ambient light check. But one canary in the mine is better than no canaries: if you leave a single Spyder3 attached to the most often used machine, it will warn you if the light levels in the Lab (or at least that portion of the Lab) are out of tolerances, so that you can close the blinds, douse the overheads, or fix whatever it is that has changed the light level.
I run a photographic business in Saint Petersburg and have been using your Spyder2 product for over two years with my Russian Operating Systems (both Mac and Windows!) The software installs in English, and I have to be careful to use English characters
All Spyder3 applications are localized into ten languages, and Russian is one of them. So you can install on a computer that has English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, or Russian, as the selected Operating System language, and our applications, plus their help files, will all be installed in that language. I’m told (though I can’t confirm this myself) that the translations are very good.
Correction Curve Error on Windows
Where in the process is this happening? 1. At the end calibration after measuring the sample patches, just before the software asks for the name for the profile? 2. At the beginning of calibration, when the Target is set for Measured Luminance mode and the application? 3. At the Set Black Luminance screen in the SpyderProof (Before/After) screen? If it is happening at #2: just select a standard Target, like 2.2-6500, and NOT to set Luminance Mode to Measured Problem Calculating The Correction Curve This error message usually indicates that there are problems with the readings from the Spyder. Since the reading data is bad, the calculations are bad and the correction curve cannot be calculated. The general causes of bad Spyder readings are: 1) The wrong baffle was installed on the Spyder (not an issue with Spyder3) 2) The Spyder was not placed correctly on the screen 3) The data was corrupted due to issues with the USB communication 4) The Spyder is defective Issue 1) sometimes happens with new users who don't realize that part of the Spyder is removed when measuring a CRT monitor. Please carefully read the first screen that is displayed when the calibration procedure begins. The baffle must be removed for CRT monitors and it must be installed for LCD monitors. The Spyder is shipped with the baffle installed. Issue 2) sometimes happens with new users who don't realize they need to put the Spyder on the monitor where it can measure the color patches. When the software prompts you, please place the Spyder onto the monitor screen so that it covers the image of the Spyder as shown. To be sure that issue 3) is not the cause, be sure to plug the Spyder directly into a USB port on the computer, not through a hub, monitor, Keyboard or extension cable. Also unplug all other USB devices except the keyboard and mouse. Issue 4) can sometimes be determined by taking measurements of some “known” colors like White, Red, Green and Blue using the Colorimeter window and looking at the measured values. (Gregory, D. 2008)
