These very experiences made one thing unmistakably clear to me: color is not an opinion; it is a science. Color is measurable.<\/p><p>As a photographer and designer, I have been working with national and international clients from the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, marine technology, and the art world since 1995. In all of these fields, color accuracy is not optional \u2014 it is mandatory. Therefore, while in my studio near W\u00fcrzburg, I do not rely on luck or a gut feeling, but on facts. Three identical video lights \u2014 same model, same settings, same setup \u2014 delivered three different color temperatures.<br \/>The issue became even more pronounced with battery-powered flash units:<\/p><ul><li>At moderate firing rates, color temperature fluctuated by 250 to 400 Kelvin.<\/li><li>Under time pressure and rapid shooting, deviations increased from 300 to 600 Kelvin.<\/li><li>In extreme cases, such as overheating or incomplete recharging, outliers exceeded the 1,000 Kelvin mark.<\/li><\/ul><p>These effects were familiar to me from practical experience. Today, I measure every relevant component of my setup:<\/p><ul><li>Light source<\/li><li>Light modifiers<\/li><li>Filters<\/li><li>Lenses<\/li><li>Even age-related changes in the equipment<\/li><\/ul><p>One example: the diffusion fabric of a three-year-old softbox can shift the color temperature by 300 to 400 Kelvin toward warmer tones. My current workflow is clearly defined:\n<ul>\n \t<li>Measure ambient light (e.g., 3,600 K)<\/li>\n \t<li>Set bi-color LEDs to this value<\/li>\n \t<li>Allow the lights to warm up<\/li>\n \t<li>Measure and fine-tune each light individually<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nHere as well, one rule applies: the display on LED lights can deviate by up to 200 Kelvin from the actual value. Only when the entire system is thermally stable and color-calibrated do I begin shooting.
