Which visual mediums do you use?
We are at home in both photography and videography.
How did you get started in this?
I took detours on my way to photography. First I studied chemistry, then I was an explosives expert and assembler. I was awarded an art scholarship and became a designer at a porcelain factory. It was only afterwards that I ended up in photography and image processing, and that’s where my heart is. I love to excite and inspire people with my work.
Do you have a particular area of interest or genre you’re interested in?
I am very versatile and love urban photography, landscape photography, animal photography and composings.
What Datacolor color management tools are in your work bag/workspace?
We use the Spyder Pro to regularly calibrate our monitors, and the Spyder Checkr Video card set when we want to ensure color accuracy while filming.
What do you like about it?
The handling of the products is exemplary, allowing us to achieve results quickly and continue with our creative work.
How does it help you bring your creative vision to life?
Colors convey emotions—and those are essential to our work. That’s why Datacolor’s products help us maintain 100% control over what ultimately reaches the viewer.
Why is accurate color important within your workflow?
I think our Datacolor video series explains this quite well (German Tutorial series):
What was the key factor that made you decide to use color management?
Many years ago, we produced a photo book along with a companion book filled with images—both quite costly by our standards. When we finally held the finished product in our hands, the disappointment was huge: the colors had a yellow cast that we hadn’t noticed when creating the photos.
What’s your biggest challenge at work these days?
What’s your objective when you create something?
Our goal is twofold. On the one hand, we want to see the emotions we associate with a piece reflected in the final result. On the other hand, the work should evoke an emotion in the viewer. We can’t determine exactly which emotion that will be, of course — but nothing is worse than an image that passes by the viewer without any impact at all.
Best bit of advice you ever got?
“Don’t ask — the artist made a choice.”
