Questions for Ronja Linßen – Photo Contest “Opposites”
When did you start your photography?
The camera has always been a faithful companion on my travels and enables me to capture wonderful images of my experiences and share them with other people.
Over time, photography has also become a great passion outside of travelling. Especially during the three years I spent in Slovenia for my job, I devoted myself increasingly to photography, being inspired by the beauty of the country with its diverse nature.
Is photography your hobby or your profession?
Photography is an ambitious hobby that I pursue with great passion.
How and where was the image taken which you entered to the competition? Is there a story about it?
This picture was taken in the south of England on the shingle beach at Dungeness. Directly adjacent to an active nuclear power station, this nature reserve with its abandoned huts and ships is a peculiar place that exudes a certain apocalyptic atmosphere. The wave-like shapes of the gravel banks caught my attention, so I positioned the camera low enough to give the impression that the boats were floating on rocky waves.
Who and/or what inspires you most?
I am most inspired by the landscape and nature around me. With regard to my photographic subjects and compositions, I usually let myself be guided by the light that presents itself to me at that moment.
What’s your photographic focus?
I focus on nature and landscape photography. I like to experiment with different techniques, such as infrared photography, intentional camera movement (ICM) or create abstract forms through multiple exposures. I also like to focus on details and structures that I find in nature. Thanks to my two small children, I also make frequent forays into baby, children and portrait photography.
What’s your next photo project, your next challenge?
I will be spending a long time in Norway this summer. I’ve come up with a special multiple exposure project that fits in well with the midnight sun season.
Do you include color management in your photographic workflow?
I try to convey emotions in my pictures by the use of color management. I also like to use vibrant colors and sometimes darker shades.
What do you do with your photos? Do you print them, post them on your social media accounts or your website or do they simply stay on your hard drive?
I regularly show my pictures in exhibitions and post them on social media channels such as Instagram. Time and again, my images also find their way into various official print media such as calendars, photo books and magazines, right up to the cover.
What’s your photographic goal? What do you dream of?
I dream of travelling a lot in the future and being able to capture a wide variety of landscapes with my camera.
