Designers and colorists know that fluorescent colors can be some of the most challenging shades to reproduce consistently. Yet fluorescent colors remain incredibly popular across industries because of their visual impact and ability to attract attention.

From sportswear and swimwear to safety apparel, footwear and fashion accessories, fluorescent colors help products stand out in crowded retail environments and create a strong visual identity.

The challenge is that fluorescent color matching follows a different set of rules than traditional color matching.

Why Fluorescent Colors Are Different

Most conventional colors become darker as additional dye or pigment is added to a substrate.

Because fluorescent materials emit additional visible light, their reflectance values can exceed 100%.

This is not a measurement error.

It is evidence that the material is converting invisible UV energy into visible light, creating the brilliant appearance that makes fluorescent colors so attractive.
