Color is an especially important consideration in the paint and coatings industry and especially so in powder coatings, which continues to grow. Powder currently represents about 20% of the coatings industry and the demand for color matching is increasing. However, color matching in powder coatings is complex, especially without digital solutions, which is why color management is key.
Leveraging digital color management technology, including both hardware and software, helps manufacturers save time, guarantee accuracy and eliminate costly errors. Since powder coatings are fully manufactured in factories and shipped ready to apply, it is crucial to get color right from the start. Companies cannot afford to waste time with visual color evaluation.
Fortunately, digital color management technology continues to evolve to meet the needs of the industry. We have seen the introduction of sophisticated portable color management devices that allow companies to measure a color and immediately receive a match in a fan deck that is within the structure of the product. Digitalized databases are becoming more popular, so all factories and labs have access to core data, regardless of where they are in the world.
